What to Know

GETTING AROUND

The island is best seen on foot or by bicycle.  Be sure to stay on the public roads, not people’s driveways. You can also make use of Guber Taxi, a local island taxi service.  Please schedule trips in advance.

WHAT TO DO

Enjoy the marked trails and beaches that Matinicus has to offer. Check out the Maker's Market on Wednesdays. Grab a treat at the Bakery. Follow the Matinicus Message Board for pop-up events like Story Time, BINGO, and the Ice Cream Social.

**LOBSTERS** Check with your host as each one has a designated local supplier

FIRE AND SAFETY

There are no open fires on Matinicus Island without a permit from the Fire Chief.

For Emergencies call 911.  Please be aware there are not medical facilities on the island. Please read this information for more details about emergency services.

RECYCLING

Recycling sheds are open on Saturdays at 10 am with additional summer hours posted.  Please review the recycling document which details what is accepted and what is not.  Be sure to follow the recycling and trash disposal rules or be prepared to take your garbage off the island yourself.

WHAT TO BRING

Matinicus is a pack on/pack off island.  Be sure to bring enough food and beverages for your entire stay. Don’t forget some layers, sunscreen, and bug spray. Ask your property owner about drinking water before coming. Many have potable water, but some do not and it’s best to know in advance!
